Job Description

Who we are: The Akarana Marine Sports Charitable Trust (AMSCT) is the governance body behind the Hyundai Marine Sports Centre – an international quality, marine based events and multi-sport facility built on The Landing, Okahu Bay in Auckland.The Hyundai Marine Sports Centre opened in 2019 and has been designed to operate as a true multi-user facility. It includes four event spaces capable of hosting more than 500 guests as well as over 800m2 of boardrooms, training and educational areas. We are also the home of The Royal Akarana Yacht Club and the Akarana Eatery.We host everything from conferences, awards evenings, short lunch meetings, team building afternoons on the water, to formal weddings, funerals and more.  About the opportunity:Were looking for someone with proven experience within an Event Manager or Event Sales Management role, who is a self-starter with strong customer service skills, attention to detail and end-to-end project and event management experience. This role will start the 2nd week of January and is a fixed term, 9 month maternity leave contract, with the potential to extend. This role will be 30 – 40 hours per week and given the nature of events, you will be required to work some evenings and weekends. We are currently gearing up to launch an additional two meeting spaces and two function rooms, so we need someone who is ready to hit the ground running.  What you’ll be doing

  • Primary contact in handling all Venue related customer inquiries, bookings, quoting, pricing, operational, setting up production schedules and providing detailed information in a timely manner.
  • Set and manage the overall budget and profitability of the Hyundai Marine Sports Centre events business.
  • Cultivate sales and manage the sales pipeline to sell the spaces as a top rental destination to a diverse group of clients.
  • Build relationships and networks to secure new and repeat business
  • In conjunction with the Events Delivery Manager, develop strong, working relationships with all suppliers (e.g. catering, audiovisual, staging, theming etc.)
  • Work with the GM to plan, employ and deliver the Events Team
  • Assist with event delivery as and when required to support the Event Delivery Manager and team.
  • Provide planning and sales pipeline information to the AMSCT board
  • Control the use of rooms and event spaces, bookings and management of master facilities calendar
  • Work with the Accounts team to ensure all events a billed accurately and on time
  • Minimise business risk by ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and internal policies and procedures, with particular reference to Health & Safety and Host Responsibility.
 What you will bring
  • At least 5+ years experience within the events industry
  • Sales experience not essential but would be advantageous
  • A high level of verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills with an intermediate to advanced level in Microsoft packages, particularly Sharepoint, Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Experience in managing a team of suppliers and casual staff
  • Experience in budgeting
  • Knowledge of Ivvy, ResDiary and Xero would be a plus but not essential
  • Applicants for this position should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work permit and be fully vaccinated
